Description
Sunflower meal is a by-product obtained in the production of vegetable oils, after pressing and extraction of oilseeds. Pressing is the process by which oil is squeezed out of sunflower seeds. And extraction is the release of residual oil after pressing the seeds with organic solvents. As a result, in the meal after pressing, the residual oil is at the level of 4%, crude protein at the level of 35-36%, amino acids and methionine, which favorably affects the growth and development of young animals. Meal is indispensable as a high-protein additive in the production of animal feed for poultry and livestock. Contains vitamins E and B, fiber, natural proteins, potassium, phosphorus and other minerals.
In terms of its energy value, sunflower meal is rich in niacin, riboflavin, choline, biotin, pantothenic acid and pyridoxine. In addition, sunflower meal is an excellent source of vitamin E.

Advantages:
- Protein Rich: The high protein content in meal supports muscle development and overall animal health.
- Economic: meal is often more cost-effective compared to other protein sources, making it a budget-friendly choice for feed formulation.
- Amino Acid Profile: The amino acids present in meal are essential for various physiological functions in animals.
Considerations:
- Non-Ruminant vs. Ruminant Feeds: meal is more suitable for non-ruminant animals like poultry and swine due to its higher fiber content, which can limit its use in ruminant diets.
- Amino Acid Balance: While meal is a good protein source, it might have limitations in certain amino acids like lysine and methionine. Therefore, it’s often used in combination with other feed ingredients to balance amino acid profiles.
Usage:
- Poultry Feed: Sunflower meal is commonly included in poultry diets to provide a cost-effective source of protein.
- Swine Feed: Its nutritional composition makes it suitable for inclusion in swine diets to support growth and performance.
- Other Monogastric Animals: Sunflower meal can be utilized in diets for rabbits, fish, and other monogastric animals.
Quality Assurance: When purchasing meal, it’s important to consider factors like moisture content, freshness, and absence of contaminants. Ensure you source it from reputable suppliers to guarantee consistent quality.
Sunflower meal is a valuable feed ingredient that offers a balanced combination of protein, fiber, and essential nutrients for non-ruminant animals. Its economic benefits and nutritional profile make it a popular choice among livestock and poultry farmers.
